Tasty Recipes For The New Year

Did you know that here at Coolings Green & Pleasant we are now stocking a growing range of groceries?  Alongside everyday store cupboard items  such as flour and eggs you’ll find meal kits, sauces, flavoured oils and salad dressings, baking ingredients and many tasty treats . Below are a few recipes to try, all using ingredients that can be found in-store:

Green Thai Curry

The Curry Sauce Co. range includes some fabulously fragrant options, with each pot suitable for up to four people. They make dinner time that little bit easier and help to avoid any dubious flavour combinations!

The recipe itself is super easy.  Simply add 100-150g of chicken per person to a wok or frying pan with one tablespoon of oil.  Cook on a high heat for 5-10 mins then add the sauce. Heat through then reduce to a simmer while adding your choice of garnish; cashews, spring onions, cucumber and bean sprouts all work well.  Serve with rice or noodles.  Minimum fuss, maximum flavour!

Lamb Rogan Josh

For an authentic taste of Indian cuisine, try The Curry Sauce Co. Rogan Josh curry sauce.  It’s delicious with lamb but you can use any other red meat to make this tasty curry.

You will need: 100-150g of lamb per person, quartered fresh tomatoes and a garnish of fresh coriander.  Fry the meat in a wok or pan for 5-10 minutes with a tablespoon of oil until browned on all sides.  Then simply add the sauce, heat through and reduce to a simmer while you add the quartered tomatoes.   Top with fresh coriander and serve with rice or naan bread.

 

Honey Flapjacks

Need a tasty after school snack?  These delicious honey flapjacks are quick and easy to make using 200g of our local Knockholt honey and 400g of Wessex Mill Porridge Oats.  You will also need 200g of unsalted butter, 200g of brown sugar and 50g of dried fruit (optional).  

Preheat your oven to 180˚c, and grease and line a 20cm square baking tin.  Melt the butter in a small pan and stir in the sugar and honey. Take the pan off the heat and add the porridge oats and fruit (if using), mixing well.  Carefully pour the mixture into the prepared baking tin, using a spoon to smooth the top.  Bake in the oven for 20 minutes until brown, allow to cool before cutting and serving.
